My friends in Canada and far away, please pay attention. Many people in the South Asian community have the diseases shown in the above infographic. Our community is vulnerable to COVID-19. Stay home and do not organize gatherings or visit gurudwara, mandir, church, and mosque.
Stop the spread. Flatten the curve. Do check on your neighbours if they need help. Practice compassion and restrain. Listen to the public health officer. Wash hands, don’t touch your face.
As requested: This site has some extremely helpful infographics that break down COVID-19: https://informationisbeautiful.net/visualizations/covid-19-coronavirus-infographic-datapack/.
If, for some reason, you still don’t understand why those who are not in high-risk groups should self-isolate and practice social distancing, check out these images.
The first (not from this site) compares South Korea and Italy. South Korea tests everyone, not just those who are symptomatic, and their findings indicate many young people are carriers without ever knowing it (look at the spike ages 20-29!).
The second shows mortality rates from China based on preexisting conditions. These are not rare circumstances – we all have friends, family and neighbours who are at risk (diabetes, asthma, heart disease, etc.).
Please do the responsible thing for those who may have a harder time fighting this and for our health care workers who need us to flatten the curve on this.
